Orientation to the practice   Assign Due Date

Get History   Check weight, BP, and Urine
    Listen for fetal heart tones
    Perform physical exam (if not already done)
     
 12-28 Weeks    About 28 Weeks
Visits every 4 weeks   Listen for fetal heart tones and check uterine size
Listen for fetal heart tones and check uterine size   Check weight, BP, and urine
Order AFP Test between 15 to 20 weeks, if wanting testing   Order one-hour glucose test
Check weight, BP, and urine   A Rhogam shot is given to patients who have Rh-negative blood type
Sign up for Childbirth Education Classes    
     
 28-34 Weeks   35 Weeks 
Visits every 2 weeks   Group B strep culture of the vagina
Listen for fetal heart tones and check uterine size   Listen for fetal heart tones and check uterine size
Check weight, BP, and urine   Check weight, BP, and urine
    Discuss Labor and Delivery
    Weekly visits begin
     
 35-40 Weeks

A cervical examination may be done beginning around 38 weeks    
Discuss management plan for delivery on an individual basis

Our physicians are affiliated with St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital. There are two options in the area for prenatal classes.

  • St. Anthony's offers prenatal classes a couple of times a month. Just visit http://www.stanthonyshospital.org/events/eventlist.aspx/  to schedule classes.
  • Mommy & Me Boutique in downtown Effingham also offers Prenatal Breastfeeding Classes.
